The Review Session!
Today at Civil Air Patrol was a chill day, but it turned out to be super important because we had a big review session. With all the exciting things we’ve been learning, it was good to slow down and make sure we really remember everything.
We started the morning by gathering in the main hall where our instructor, Lt. Edwards , had set up several review stations. Each station had different activities related to what we’ve learned over the past few weeks, like parts of an airplane, how to read a map, and basic weather conditions for flying. It was like a mini-fair of flying knowledge!
Kollar and I teamed up like usual, and we walked around to different stations, testing each other. At the airplane parts station, we had to match names to parts on a model plane. I remembered most of them, but Alex remembered nearly everything , knowing even the tricky ones! It felt great to see how much my friend knew, and he even taught me a few tips on how to remember the harder names.
Next, we hit the map reading station. This was fun because we got to use some of the skills we learned last week with the treasure hunt game. We had to quickly find locations on a map using coordinates. It was a race against time, and we managed to find all the locations right before the buzzer rang. We high-fived each other—teamwork makes the dream work!
After all the review games, we had a small quiz to test our memory. It was a bit nerve-wracking because I wanted to do well, and so did everyone else. When I got my quiz back, I saw that I got most of the answers right. Phew! It was a relief and also a proud moment because it showed me that I really was learning and retaining all this cool stuff.
The day at CAP ended with Mr. Lee telling us how proud he was of our progress. He mentioned that learning is like building blocks, where each piece helps support the next. That made a lot of sense, and it made me think about how each thing I learn is building me up to be a better cadet and maybe even a pilot someday!
When I got home, my cousin had come over to visit. We spent the evening playing video games and then decided to build a fort out of pillows and blankets in the living room. It wasn’t quite like building knowledge blocks at CAP, but it was a lot of fun! We created our little fortress, complete with a snack station and a spot to watch movies from inside our fort.
Today was a quieter day at CAP, but it reminded me how important it is to sometimes slow down and make sure you really know your stuff. It’s not always about rushing to the next big thing; sometimes, it’s about making sure you’re solid on the foundation. Plus, having some fun building forts with family isn’t too bad either!
